I am so excited to finally get to share my daughters’ shared mermaid bedroom! I know I’ve kept you waiting a long time for this. To be honest, I can already guarantee you the wall gallery is going to be seeing a few changes. Nevertheless, I am so thrilled with how everything came together! Including the color scheme which–to be honest–I was really unsure about. This post is in collaboration with Walls Need Love and Beddy’s Bedding. All opinons are completely my own and links contain affiliates.

A mermaid bedroom to grow into

Much like with my son’s bedroom, I wanted a space that my girls could grow into. Something that they would love now and wouldn’t be tired of in a few years. I think this was especially challenging because I had to make the space appropriate for a seven year old as well as a toddler.

the right color scheme

The direction I got from my daughter was that she wanted a mermaid room and she wanted a green room. To start getting inspiration we browsed the Walls Need Love website. I used Walls Need Love years ago when I designed my son’s beach-themed room and knew that the quality of their decals was phenomenal. We were able to find a paper that looked like mermaid scales called Lord Mandrake. Since it’s such a busy pattern I didn’t want it to be too much so we just got enough to cover her bed nook.

With our Lord Mandrake removable vinyl wallpaper in hand we went to the hardware store to pick out a color. It was a bit of a struggle to get my daughter to agree on a green color that would work in the room and wouldn’t be too overwhelming. Green Aqua from Behr seemed to be a color that would work well with the wallpaper and the bedding my daughter had picked out (more on that later).

the perfect bedding

For this mermaid bedroom makeover we turned to Beddy’s again for our bedding needs. Although we looked over the website extensively and I tried to persuade my daughter to go with a white or gray bedding (after all, it would be so easy to work a neutral into a green mermaid room) she had her heart set on pink. I don’t blame her, the Vintage Blush II is a gorgeous bedding set. Luckily, once we picked out the wall paint I figured it would all work perfectly together.

Beddy's bedding

I’ve already raved about how much I love Beddy’s zip up bedding. It just makes it so much easier for my kiddos to make their own beds in the morning! I also love that it’s so much easier to change the sheets. With six beds to change the sheets on not having to deal with a separate fitted and top sheet or pesky tucking in really speeds things up.

fun mermaid touches

All the fun details of the room let me bring in the mermaid theme without going overboard. Like these fun mermaid tail bookends I found at Home Goods. Of course one can never have too many books so I also found some great book ledges on Amazon that were the perfect addition to a corner of her room. To help fill them I bought a couple new Little Mermaid books on Amazon as well, they really have some beautiful versions of the Hans Christian Andersen classic!

Details of a mermaid bedroom

I’m so happy with how everything came together in this mermaid bedroom and even better my daughter loves it too! The colors and the details work perfectly to give my two girls a space that they’ll love for years to come. I’m also glad I was able to pull in some touches we already had to save some money!
