Do you like crafting with pumpkins? Last year I shared some book page pumpkins that I still love to pieces. This year I got my kids in on the festive fall fun (say that five times fast) and we made some watercolor pumpkins. Although these are painted with standard craft paint, the light and streaky technique almost creates a watercolor effect that gives a fun and pretty twist to your traditional pumpkins. I love any craft that can be easily done in a naptime and these watercolor pumpkins totally fit the bill.
materials:
- small craft pumpkins
- craft paint
- sponge brushes
- washi tape (optional)
I didn’t even use a dish to pour my paint into. I just drizzled some directly on to the pumpkins and painted in a straight up and down motion. Some of my pumpkins I left pretty streaky to leave the original underneath color showing through a bit. I really love the way those turned out too.

My pumpkins had glittery black stems that I was not a fan of. It was an easy problem to solve by wrapping them in some pretty washi tape. This step is totally optional, of course. Depending on what your stems look like you might just want to keep them as-is.
My kids had such a blast making these and I’m not going to lie–I did too. This is such a simple and fun fall craft. Plus, now we have cute little pumpkins we can enjoy next year too!

Most of our pumpkins turned out some shade of blue. However, I had to make a light pink one for baby girl. It might just be my favorite one of the bunch.
