our family’s favorite board books

Table of Contents

As a mom to four little ones and an avid reader myself I can assure you that we have tons of children’s books. Between our overflowing bookshelves, cabinets, and drawers we have many much books. We also love on them hard. Yes, we try to teach our children to treat books nicely, but they’re kids and stuff happens. When my toddler goes down for bed and asks repeatedly for a “book, book!” it’s hard to say no, m’kay? So naturally we are big fans of board books around these parts. After all, they are slightly more sturdy than their paperback counterparts. I have been pretty busy lately and haven’t had a ton of time to read myself, so today I wanted to share our favorite board books with you. Links contain affiliates, as always all thoughts expressed here are my honest opinion.

our favorite board books and why we love them

Dr. Seuss books

We love Dr. Seuss books for their easy rhymes and lyrical text. Of course, the illustrations are fun to look at too! One of my kids’ favorites has always been The Foot Book, they just love the “sllooooww feeett… quickfeet!” page. I also may or may not be acting out the book while holding on to their tootsies while we read, so there’s that too. With a dentist in the family we’re also quite partial to The Tooth Book; even I crack up when it says, “and never bite your dentist when he works inside your head”. Some of our other favorite Dr. Seuss board books are: Dr. Seuss’ ABC Book, There’s a Wocket in my Pocket, and Hop on Pop.

Sandra Boynton books

We love Sandra Boynton books in our house! From the adorable illustrations to the rhyming syntax, they are some of our go-to bedtime books. In fact, The Going to Bed Book is definitely one of our favorites for this, so I suppose it’s well named. And yes, it’s pretty random (who gets all ready for bed and then goes and exercises?!), but adorably cute. All of the books in her Little Pookie series are some more that we just love, especially What’s Wrong, Little Pookie and Let’s Dance, Little Pookie. Of course Moo, Baa, La La La! is another classic Sandra Boynton book that you can’t go wrong with.

 BabyLit books

Whenever I’m looking for a board book for a gift I look no further than BabyLit books. If you haven’t heard of BabyLit yet, they take classic books and authors and reimagine them for young readers. Their books are truly special. I absolutely adore every book of theirs that I have purchased for my children, but just a few of our favorites are: Alice in Wonderland (a color primer), Sense and Sensibility (an opposites primer), and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (a camping primer). BabyLit is constantly adding new titles and I am also a fan of their All Aboard! series, especially All Aboard! National Parks (a wildlife primer). With such a wide-range of titles you’re sure to find something that your own little bookworm would love and the BabyLit books make wonderful gifts and would be the perfect addition to that Easter basket you’re planning, wink wink.
