Earth Day is next week, are you doing anything? I still remember the year that my parents bought an orange tree to plant in the backyard. We enjoyed fresh orange juice from the tree for years to come. I think that Earth Day is a great chance to talk to our kids about the earth. Although we should always be discussing ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle, Earth Day gives us a good excuse to focus on the earth for once since she does so much for us. Today I’m sharing some fun movies and books for Earth Day that would be perfect to share with your kiddos. Some links contain affiliates, all opinions are my own.

history of Earth Day

This will be the 51st year of celebrating Earth Day. The idea of Earth Day was first proposed in 1969 when the Governor of Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson. He saw the energy behind the anti-war movement from young people and students and wanted to bring that same energy and awareness to being more conscious of air and water pollution. In the year 1990 Earth Day went from an American holiday to being celebrated on a global scale with 200 million people in 141 countries taking part.
