For my daughter’s sixth birthday party she requested a Bluey birthday party. Since our whole family loves the show Bluey, I was more than happy to oblige. I’m also a big believer in keeping activities and decor simple for a kid’s birthday party, and I think the fun, family-friendly vibe of Bluey totally lends itself to that. However, this was also her first friend birthday party ever and it was important to me that everything be perfect. She’d been waiting for this day for soooo long and it was finally her moment in the spotlight–“for real life!” Keep reading for all the Bluey birthday party inspiration you need! If you’re local to the Sacramento area, I’m also sharing a great company that we partnered with you’ll want to take note of.

An easy kid birthday party activity is to have a coloring table.

how to throw a Bluey birthday party

It is so fun throwing a Bluey-themed birthday party for your child. It’s a show that appeals not just to kids, but adults also! It was fun putting subtle (and not so subtle) nods to the show around the house for the party that I knew the parents would appreciate. Surprisingly though, there aren’t as much inspiration for a Bluey birthday party as I would have thought. However, I promise that it’s easy to pull together fun ideas from the show for an inexpensive party your birthday girl or boy will love!

The star of our event was the ball pit rental from Jemsthetics Event Co., located in the Sacramento area. The husband and wife team behind this local company have curated the most aesthetically pleasing and fun variety of rentals for kid birthday parties. From a variety of bounce houses, soft play options, bumper cars, backdrops, and more, they have some of the latest options in party rentals! The whole process was super easy to book and it was easy to communicate with them throughout the entire process–even though the owner, Jessica, was just days away from giving birth!

We chose to rent the 10×10 ball pit with double slide add-on and it was a big hit with all the party guests! This can go inside or outside and it fit perfectly in our family room. We had the space all cleared for the ball pit and setup was quick and done in plenty of time before the party. Since we rented the ball pit from Jemsthetics Event Co. (@jemstheticseventco on Instagram) we kept the other activities to a minimum. The birthday girl really wanted to play Pass the Parcel–NOT Lucky’s Dad’s rules, wink wink. We also had a coloring table set up with plenty of coloring pages and stickers for kids that wanted a small break from the chaos in the family room.

other fun activities you could do:

  • play keepy uppy with balloons
  • have a fort building station
  • have a Bluey viewing party
  • play barky boats
  • have a game of toilet tag
  • play a game of charades
  • dance for musical statues

a simple food spread

Ideally, we try to not plan parties for meal times, because food can be expensive for a crowd! However, due to our schedule we had to have the party at dinnertime on a Friday. We kept things simple and fairly inexpensive with pizza and fruit salad. Of course, I had to make little signs to go along with our party food.

The birthday girl wanted chocolate cake so we ordered on from Costco and I used my favorite Costco cake hack to make it fit our party theme on a budget. I ordered the rings off of Amazon and the kids loved requesting their favorite characters! Not familiar with my Costco cake hack? You can check it out in this blog post! It will change your life!

homemade party decorations

Luckily, the children’s television show Bluey really lends itself to simple, homemade party decorations. Plus, the classic orange and blue color scheme works great for a boy or girl party. I made a couple of blue and orange paper chains to string up in the house and they were the perfect inexpensive decor statement the party needed.

Of course, one of our family parties is not complete without a balloon garland either. I love making balloon garlands because they make a BIG impact for a small price tag and just a little bit of extra work. Plus, balloons really work with the Bluey theme since Bluey and Bingo like to play Keepy Uppy! If you don’t want to make your own balloon garland, you can add on balloon masterpieces from Jemsthetics Event Co. when you’re reserving your party rental!

Bluey birthday party party favors

I have mixed feelings on kid party favors. Personally, I’m not a fan of cheap trinkets that are so popular in goody bags. However, I know that most kids love them, and my little birthday girl was no exception. Since it was her first friend birthday party I really wanted to make sure she was excited about her party favors. The tricky part was, I had to find something worthwhile, but was also cost-effective since her entire kindergarten class was invited and I needed about 20 goody bags,

After a lot of shopping around I was able to pull together a cute little goody bag with fun and delicious items that went with our Bluey birthday party. Our bags held small Bluey water pen coloring books, small building blocks from Target dollar spot, mini play-doh packs, Bluey fruit snacks, and a bag of “biscuits”, aka. chocolate chip cookies.

other fun party favor ideas:

  • children’s sunglasses (granny glasses)
  • a bag of jelly beans (Rita’s beans)
  • a sticky gecko
  • a big balloon (to play Keepy Uppy)
  • a feather wand
