How to make a DIY rainbow baby mobile for a nursery.

I love rainbows, don’t you? During my last pregnancy I was so drawn to rainbows because she was our sweet, seventh little spirit (since there are seven colors in the rainbow). I was constantly thinking back to my miscarriage before having my son, when I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to have kids. Now, as we’re getting ready to welcome our eighth little spirit, seventh baby earth side, I wanted to honor that with a special project. This boho DIY rainbow mobile was fun to put together and depending on the colors you use can be perfect for any nursery! Some links contain affiliates, all opinions are my own.

I had seen some similar nursery mobiles to this DIY rainbow but I thought it would also be a fairly simple project, and I was right! I can’t take all the credit because I did pass the drilling part off to the hubby. In my current fragile and hormone-loaded state I didn’t trust myself to not split the wood.

I ordered the wooden stacker toy off of Amazon in a gender neutral blue and orange scheme. Mike used a drill bit in the right size for the jute I had to slowly drill through the top wooden rainbow arch. Then he lined each arch underneath one at a time and drilled through them so the holes would be fairly even.

I threaded the jute on a number 16 needle and threaded it through the holes. I also added some wool felt balls I already had to space out the rainbow arches. Plus, I love the texture that they added to this project! All in all, this DIY rainbow mobile came together really quickly and I love seeing it hanging above the crib, waiting for our May 2023 baby!
