tips to save money on your Disney vacation

travel during off-peak times

One of the best ways to save money on your Disney vacation is to travel during off-peak times. At these times the ticket prices are lower. This means avoiding holidays and busy weekends. We have been fortunate that our kids school allows us to request independent study work when we’re gone. So, most of our Disney trips have been able to be at times other than holidays. If you can do the same, you’ll find that the parks are less crowded. This means means you’ll have more time to enjoy the attractions and shows. It also means that the hotel prices are lower during these times. So, do your research and plan your trip during a time when the crowds are lower and the prices are more affordable.

save money on your Disney vacation with discounts

There are many discounts available for Disney vacations. For example, if you’re a member of the military, you may be eligible for a discount on park tickets. You can also periodically find discounts for teachers, students, and seniors. Oftentimes grocery stores or big box chains will have special promotions going on as well. Do your research and see if you qualify for any of these discounts. You can also check websites like Get Away Today for discounted tickets and packages!

consider staying off-property

Staying on-property at a Disney resort can be convenient, but it is also very expensive. At Disneyland, you have lots of options for nearby hotels that are within walking distance or have free shuttles. At Disney World, it’s a little more spread out. If you’re looking to save money, consider staying off-property at a nearby hotel or vacation rental. You’ll still have easy access to the parks, but you’ll save money on your accommodations. Make sure you check out all of our family’s reviews of hotels near Disneyland on the blog!

save money by packing your own food

Eating as a family of eight can be expensive anywhere you go. Eating at the Disney parks can be even more expensive. However, one perk of Disney over many other theme parks is that you can save money by packing your own food. We always pack drink powder to mix with water and plenty of snacks. We also usually bring in our own lunches and then buy dinner in the park. You can bring a cooler with you–just be sure to check the park regulations before you go. Honestly, we have found that compared to most sit-down restaurants nowadays, food at Disney really isn’t that much more expensive. Their kids meals are especially well-priced and come with refillable drinks!

buy souvenirs outside of the parks

It can be tempting to but all the cute souvenirs you see, but they can quickly add up. Instead of buying souvenirs inside the parks, consider buying them outside of the parks. You can find Disney merchandise at discount stores and online. There are plenty of options on Amazon or even from small shops. Always make sure you’re buying officially licensed products though! Many businesses are illegally creating trademarked Disney souvenirs without permission.

Another way to save money is by coming prepared. For instance, I always bring my own glowsticks for the kids from the dollar store. That was my kids aren’t tempted to ask for all the light-up souvenirs while we’re waiting for parades or fireworks. We also like to give our kids gift cards for birthdays and holidays leading up to trips, and ask grandparents to do the same. That way, they do have a small budget for something really special they see and just have to have.

use the Disney transportation system

Parking at the Disney parks can be expensive, but you can save money by using the Disney transportation system. Disney World has many options for easy transportation. This is a convenient and affordable way to get around, and it’s also a fun way to experience the Disney World Resort. Disneyland has less public transportation options available. However, in addition to some local hotels having shuttles, ART is also available. ART part of the Anaheim Transportation Network. You can book a ride for your entire group ahead of time for a reasonable price. It’s easy to purchase passes and schedule your rides through the A-Way WeGo app!
