stay on site

During our year of being LEGOLAND passholders we were able to stay at both hotels at the LEGOLAND California Resort. Both are a blast and have pros and cons. You can read our review and comparison of them both by clicking here! If you stay at one of the LEGOLAND hotels it takes your LEGO fun up a notch with nightly scavenger hunts and fun extras around every corner.

do all the extras

There are so many insider secrets to LEGOLAND and it adds so much fun to your day! Make sure before you step into the park you know all about minifigure trading, pop badges, and where to find your birthday pin. Downloading the LEGOLAND app will also let you know when all the shows are soo you can take in all the entertainment like a pro when you need a break from rides.

plan your day out

If you are staying onsite you might find it beneficial to take advantage of the extra half hour that hotel guests have in the park before it opens to the general public. If you’re not staying at one of the LEGOLAND hotels though then you want to avoid the early access areas of the park when you first arrive. These are the rides that are open to hotel guests early:

  • Coastersaurus
  • Fairy Tale Brook
  • Coast Cruise
  • *NINJAGO The Ride

Our family usually liked to work around the park in a counter-clockwise direction. There are several rides we liked and could hit early before the crowds hit. On the other hand, LEGOLLADN caters to families with young kids. So you can also take advantage off afternoons when many families leave to put their little ones down for naps.

ultimate guide for spending your birthday at LEGOLAND

There’s a reason that my son wanted to celebrate his 8th birthday at LEGOLAND–it’s so much fun! There are tons of ways to celebrate that your kids will love.

Tips for celebrating your birthday at LEGOLAND California.

splurge on a special birthday treat

One of our favorite things to do at any theme park is enjoy the delicious treats! We always enjoy stopping at Castle Ice Cream and seeing what monster shake they have at the moment. There’s always a new, delicious flavor to enjoy. For example, the birthday shake they had when celebrating their 20th birthday was as amazing as it was beautiful.

consider a birthday party package

We celebrated five birthdays at LEGOLAND while we had our annual passes. We did it our own way, however, LEGOLAND also offers different birthday party packages. There are a few options if you want to go that route while celebrating your birthday at LEGOLAND. There are three different packages to choose from and they all include free admission for the birthday child!

tips for spending a rainy day at LEGOLAND

Don’t be afraid to visit a theme park in the rain! Some of our family’s best park days have had somewhat soggy weather. We visited LEGOLAND on one of the stormiest days of 2019 and we still had a blast!

smaller crowds and shorter wait times

Sure, most people don’t want to visit theme parks in the rain. Especially parents dragging their little kids around. But you know what that means? Less crowds and shorter lines for you! Surprisingly, there’s still plenty to do at LEGOLAND in the rain! Here is a list of attractions that are usually still open on a rainy day:

  • LEGO NINJAGO The Ride
  • Lost Kingdom Adventure
  • Beetle Bounce
  • Skipper School
  • Driving School
  • Junior Driving School
  • Kid Power Tower
  • LEGOLAND Express
  • Explorer River Quest
  • Coastersaurus
  • LEGO City Deep Sea Adventure

you can explore new areas of the park

A rainy day might keep you from some of your favorite attractions, but it also might open your eyes to something new! Our kids usually like to rush from ride to ride, but on a rainy day you can take your time and find new favorite things to do while taking refuge from the storm!

ultimate guide to holidays at LEGOLAND

Every theme park is a blast to visit during the holidays and LEGOLAND is no different. We had so much fun while visiting LEGOLAND at Christmastime that I still think about going back for the holidays.

take in the festive shows and twinkling lights

We loved the holiday décor at LEGOLAND. Make sure you plan time to catch a special holiday show and take plenty of pictures in front of the decorations! The Fun Town section of the park was definitely our favorite festive spot. The LEGO shop windows were so fun all decked out for the holidays. And the huge LEGO brick tree is definitely a site to see! Plus, it “snows” throughout the day and your kids definitely don’t want to miss that!

make sure you dress appropriately

December on the California coast can be tricky. It can be really sunny and in the 70s… or it can be chilly and overcast. I recommend dressing in layers. A light sweatshirt should probably be plenty to keep you warm once the sun goes down but on the coast the weather can change quickly so always check the day before.
