You know how much our family loves national parks! We have a goal of visiting them all… although admittedly we might have to revise that to all of them in the lower 48. Did you know there are eight national parks in the state of Alaska?! If you want to do a national parks unit with your kids check out this fun lesson plan. I’ve included printables, book suggestions, and even links to virtual field trips!

Our national parks are such a great place to do homeschool field trips. The resources there can help you incorporate P.E., science, history, and more into hands-on lessons. The Junior Ranger programs are a great place to start with your lessons. You can even find several of them online! Ideally this national parks lesson plan would include a visit to a national park near you. However, if you can’t make that work you can still learn all about our national parks right from home!

I’ve created a few worksheets for math, ELA, and a final unit project for you. There is also a link to virtual field trips included in the national parks lesson plan. We are so fortunate that there are a plethora of online tours of our national parks to choose from! Of course, plenty of books for all reading levels that perfectly go with the theme are listed as well. And don’t forget all the great national park resources I have right here on my own blog if you’re planning a trip with your family!
