Last week I talked all about Schlitterbahn Waterpark New Braunfels. We knew if we were traveling all the way from northern California to Texas Hill Country to go to a waterpark we wanted to make it worth it. So we planned on spending three days at the waterpark. Since we would be trying to maximize our waterpark days we figured it would be best to stay in the middle of all the action and make our homebase the Resort at Schlitterbahn. Keep reading for all our tips about staying at the Schlitterbahn Resort in New Braunfels.

Staying at the Schlitterbahn Resort in New Braunfels.

options at the Schlitterbahn Resort

Schlitterbahn Resort has several options for accommodations. We stayed in a two bedroom cottage at the classic hotel section and had plenty of space! Other options range from motel rooms to luxury suites to full vacation rental homes. Some accommodations are located near the Schlitterbahn West and some are near Schlitterbahn East. Consider the location when booking because the perk of staying right next to an entrance might be worth giving up a different perk to you.

Here are the seven options at the Resort at Schlitterbahn with their price points:

Resort at the Bahn (this is where we stayed) $

Condos at Boogie Bay $$

Riverbend Cabins $$

SchlitterStein Lofts $$$

Treehaus Luxury Suites $$$$

Vacation Homes $$$

Wasser House & Lodge $

Insider tip: The various accommodations have different pros and cons. They also have vastly different price points! So decide what is most important to you. For example, if we had stayed at the Condos at Boogie Bay we would have had access to a washer and dryer which in hindsight would have been useful.

The Original Resort

The Resort at the Bahn is the Original Schlitterbahn Resort and it feels very “original”. The room smelled a little damp (which makes sense with all the water!) and although everything was in good condition and clean, these accommodations are definitely more dated than some of the other options. The layout was a little odd, with a front door to the living space, then the master bedroom, then the second room with a door to the deck.

The location of the Resort at the Bahn is ideal though. It’s tucked away at the furthest end of the resort so it’s a little more quiet. However, it’sstill conveniently located near an entrance. We also had tons of space and the perk of having a full kitchen was nice. We were able to make all our own meals during our stay!

Insider tip: We loved all the space our room had for our family. However, we didn’t feel like there was enough places to hang all our wet stuff. Since we had a lot of stormy weather during our visit we couldn’t hang things outside even though we had a deck area. The first night we drove over to the local Big Lots and purchased an over the door towel rack. I would 100% recommend bringing something like that! A door mat to stop water from getting tracked inside would be a smart idea too.

perks of staying onsite

Other than the proximity to the waterpark, there are several other perks of staying onsite. One thing my kids enjoyed were the movie nights and s’mores by the playground (when it wasn’t raining). There are also barbeque pits, volleyball courts, and picnic areas you can utilize. Another benefit is the ability to head into the waterpark on your check-in and check-out days.

One of the coolest perks of staying onsite is that you have access to heated pools, even after the park closes. Some of these pools are within the boundaries of the waterpark. However, as a guest to the resort you can go and enjoy them until 10:00 pm at night! These heated pools are even available year round so if the waterpark isn’t open, you can still go swimming.

Insider tip: In our experience during our week there they are pretty strict about their check-in time. In fact, we were fortunate to get in at check-in time–several other groups had to wait well past to get their rooms. I don’t know if this was due to staffing shortages because of COVID. However, that week at least it was a common problem. We had gone into the park that day and it started storming and there was nowhere warm or dry to wait for our room. I would recommend planning ahead and assuming you will not be getting into your room early.

All in all, we loved our stay at the Schlitterbahn Resort in New Braunfels. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again, although I’d love to try one of the other accommodation types. Our kids are still talking about this epic trip almost a year later!
