Q & A with Michaela Bucklew, licensed Master Esthetician

Okay, first of all, some people might be wondering what the big deal is. So let’s get right to it–why might your skin care routine need to change with the different seasons?

Different types of weather affects our skin. During the winter (when it’s more dry) you may need a heavy moisturizer to help balance out the cold, dry air. In the summer you may notice your skin getting more oily. Or, maybe it’s just different from other seasons so it’s totally normal to adjust your routine!

So, if your skin can change with the summer then it makes sense that you skin care routine may need to change too! What particular products might you want to consider adding in for the summer?

In the summer, we tend to be outside more. While we’re doing a lot of fun activities we’re getting our faces sweaty and dirty. Making sure you have a good cleanser and exfoliating once or twice a week will help keep your skin clean during all the summer fun.

Lots of people travel in the summer, what do you recommend to keep your skin looking great when you’re away from home?

If you can bring your normal skin care routine with you, that’s the best option! You can get little travel size bottles to put your skin care in if you need TSA approved sizes. Try to avoid using hotel soaps or products–they usually aren’t the highest quality! Using products your skin isn’t used to means you could be more likely to break out or experience a reaction (that’s not fun for vacay pics or trying to fix your skin once your home) so sticking as close to your usual routine as possible is a game changer!

That’s a lot of helpful and easy-to-understand info! One last thing–what is the NUMBER ONE skincare product you recommend in the summer?

SUNSCREEN! Sunscreen formulas have come such a long way, there is no reason to not wear a sunscreen. Get a broad spectrum sunscreen that you will like wearing. And don’t forget a facial sunscreen. There are so many out there, across every price point, and you can even find some with moisturizing properties that won’t clog your pores.
