10 ways to spend Earth Day with your kids

Fun activities to do with kids for Earth Day.

Table of Contents

This Friday is Earth Day and by now you might know that I will use any excuse to bake something yummy or do something fun. I love making the little things special for my kiddos and making memories together. I personally have memories of one Earth Day in particular growing up where we planted an orange tree. We then enjoyed the fruits of our labor (quite literally) for many years to come! So today I’m excited to share some ideas for spending Earth Day with your kids. Some links contain affiliates, all opinions are my own.

Earth Day is a little different then most “holidays” in the sense that it’s not really a big deal. However, it’s definitely a fun excuse to get outside and enjoy the spring weather! Just in case you happen to still be shoveling snow where you live, I included a couple indoor activities too. Even those will get you excited for warmer days to come.

10 ideas for Earth Day

1. Draw a giant world with sidewalk chalk and have a fun geography lesson labeling all the continents and oceans.

2. Go on a nature scavenger hunt.

3. Try your hand at geocaching

4. Plant a tree or garden. Still too cold where you live? Start some seeds indoors!

5. Visit your local beach or park and pick up trash. Make it a game by having teams and seeing who can pick up the most.

6. Explore a new trail or bike path.

7. Instead of throwing them out, give new life to old, stained clothes by tie-dying them.

8. Visit a local aquarium, zoo, arboretum, or botanical garden.

 9. Watch some fun cartoon nature shows together–PBS Kids is a great resource for these types of shows.

10. Bake some Earth sugar cookies.

Making these cookies is both fun and simple. Just make your favorite sugar cookie recipe (this is mine) and once you’re done mixing the dough, divide the dough in half. Color one half blue, and one half green (I love to use the Wilton icing colors). Once your dough is chilled then separate out small sections of each color and roll out together, creating a marbled look to cut out with a circular cutter.
