Table of Contents

Although many businesses suffered in 2020 under stay-at-home orders and continue to do so, streaming services have been booming. Netflix alone added almost 16 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2021. Not only is membership up for streaming services across the board, but original content continues to rise too. Some of these shows are great and some are, well, not. I love going to my friends and followers when I need recommendations for the best shows to stream and today I’m going to share some with you!

The best shows to stream in 2021. Shows to watch for the whole family.

With so many great series you could watch how could I possibly narrow it down? For this list I really wanted to focus on original content–what can streaming services bring you that cable television can’t? I also mostly focused on shows that came out more recently. So most of the shows on this list will be new as of Summer of 2020. And I wanted to provide a variety of streaming platform options. Hopefully there’s something for everyone on this list!

  1. Best Leftovers Ever: If you like cooking competition shows you’ll love this one. And bonus–it will have you actually wanting to eat the leftovers in your fridge! Three amateur chefs compete to see who can be the most creative with the leftovers from last night’s dinner. Watching this motivated me even more to stop the food waste! Streaming on Netflix.
  2. The Queen’s Gambit: Adult Content. It’s not often I recommend shows with adult subject matter but The Queen’s Gambit is highly recommended for a reason. The strong female lead who battles with addiction issues and the hardships of her past and triumphs is incredible. Streaming on Netflix.
  3. Dream Home Makeover: From whole home to small room, Shea and Syd McGee from Studio McGee fame show off their sense of style in their own show. 4. Stay Here: Design show meets marketing secrets. If you’ve ever dreamed of owning an Airbnb then you will quickly become addicted to this makeover show co-hosted by Genevieve Gordor. I also love the addition of marketing tips provided to the vacation rental owners–even if you don’t own a rental you might learn something new like I did! Streaming on Netflix.
  5. Never Have I Ever…: Adult Content. Ah—nothing quite like watching teenagers trying to navigate life. This show is so much more than your typical teen drama though. Watch all the deeper issues being dealt with with grace and humor. If you’re a fan of John Hughes films you will love this series. Streaming on Netflix.
on other streaming services
  1. The Pack: Hosted by Lindsey Vonn The Pack is a fun competition show for the whole family to watch together! 2. The Mandalorian: I mean, by now pretty much everyone has watched The Mandalorian, right? A must-watch for any Star Wars fan the events of the show take place between——. If you’ve already caught the first two seasons a third season is expected to be released at the end of this year. Streaming on Disney+.
  3. WandaVision: This break-through series has audiences and critics alike saying, “no way!” See a side of the Scarlett Witch and Vision you’ve never seen before. If you’re watching the Marvel movies in timeline order you should know that this show falls after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Streaming on Disney+.
  4. She-Hulk: I admit, at first I thought this show looked… let’s just say–less than good. However, I really enjoyed watching it with my husband!
