It’s hard to believe that when I first started this blog over nine years ago I classified it as a DIY blog. The past couple years though it seems like the DIY projects are few and far between. I think it’s just the season of my life that I’m in right now. With so much going on I don’t have a lot of time to take out all my craft supplies. That’s one of the reasons why I’m so thankful for this blog and it being a creative outlet in my life right now! That being said, I have been able to get some crafting done lately. It’s been so much fun to be painting and creating and making again! This conversation heart garland is the perfect decoration for Valentine’s Day. It was fun and simple to make with just a few items that you can easily order from Amazon!

Truth be told, conversation hearts are not my favorite Valentine’s Day candy. Not by a long shot. But there’s definitely something fun and nostalgic about those little pastel-colored hearts with the short sentiments stanped on them. I think the real deal are fun to decorate with, so why not make some that will last a little longer? This wooden conversation heart garland has quickly become my favorite holiday decoration. I’m excited to use it for years to come!

How to make an easy Valentine's Day decoration

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the different phrases you typically see. If you don’t have a vinyl cutter though you could always just pick up some letter stickers from your local craft store! Another option would be to paint the hearts and then print on them with black permanent markers or paint.

Once the conversation heart phrases have been applied to the wooden hearts it’s best to paint on a thin coat of Mod Podge. This will help seal the letters to the wood so your paint won’t bleed underneath. You can definitely skip this step if you’re short on time or supplies though. And if you do have a little paint bleed that’s what a light sandpaper is for! I’m convinced rustic decor was invented to cover up mistakes, wink wink.

Valentine's Day DIY

Once your hearts are dry you can string on jute or ribbon and you’re done! I bought hearts that were pre-drilled so I wouldn’t have to worry about making holes. This craft is truly simple to execute and you can finish in just a couple hours!
