Now that Thanksgiving is over I’m excited to jump into all things Christmas! This is one of my favorite times of year and I’m trying to take the time to enjoy it with my family as much as I can. One of the things I love about homeschooling is how much time we can spend together as a family. I also love planning our lessons around holidays to incorporate them into our plans. I try to have my children do schoolwork on most weekdays–even during holidays when most kids are out of school. However, I always try to make it a little more fun during those times. I love my standard, go-to resources for worksheets and lesson plans, but I also enjoy coming up with my own ideas. With that in mind, I hope you enjoy these How the Grinch Stole Christmas worksheets!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

One of the many Christmas movies that my kids love is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. They really enjoy all versions. I thought it would be a good idea to make some worksheets that they could do for fun homeschool lessons. So of course I wanted to share them with all of you!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a cartoon that came out in 1966 based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name. The book tells us that the Grinch hates everything about Christmas but “no one quite knows the reason”. Finally the Grinch is fed up and he can’t take all the holiday cheer anymore. He decides that he’s going to steal Christmas from the neighboring town of Whoville. He soon discovers that it might not be quite as easy to steal Christmas as he originally thought. I love how he has a literal change of heart at the end of the story. It’s a cute Christmas tale with a wonderful message for everyone during the crazy holiday season. After all, Christmas is more than the presents and decorations, Christmas is a feeling or a state of being.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas worksheets

I’ve created six fun printables for you and the best part is they are completely free! There are two sets for two different age ranges. There are two pages that are geared towards younger children and four worksheets that are more appropriate for slightly older children. These printables cover language arts, math, social studies, and fine motor skills for the younger students. As a homeschool mom to five kids I know how hard it can be to try and get our homeschool day finished with little ones running around and wanting to participate. Hopefully these worksheets for younger ones will help keep them busy while you’re teaching!

It would be so fun to plan a whole unit around How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It could include watching the movies, reading the books, and planning some fun activities. I personally think one of the best ways to learn is to have so much fun you don’t even realize you’re learning!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas lesson ideas:

  • Have your child create a Venn diagram comparing two versions of the movie or comparing the book and a version of the movie.
  • Ask your student to write their own poem continuing where the book left off. Add a few “pages” to the story of what happens next.
  • Have your child complete a book report stating what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
  • For a S.T.E.M. activity have your student make their own sleigh (a small-scale model). Then have them race it down their own “Mt. Crumpit”.
  • Have younger children go on a sight word hunt through the book.
  • If you have multiple children have them act out their own version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas complete with costumes and props. If you have family coming for the holidays this would be a fun activity to get cousins involved in!
