Our family loves visiting Tahoe year-round but especially in the summer. It’s so beautiful and such a nice escape from the summer heat. A few weeks ago I ran my first half marathon in Olympic Valley (formerly Squaw Valley) so to make race morning easier we decided to stay on-site the night before. The race start and finish line was located in the heart of The Village at Palisades Tahoe and I’ve been wanting to stay there for years. This was the perfect opportunity to cross it off my bucket list! Read through the end for our family’s full review of The Village at Palisades Tahoe. what makes The Village at Palisades Tahoe special?

Olympic Valley is a beautiful year-round destination. It was formerly called Squaw Valley and was home of the 1960 winter Olympics. These Olympic games held a lot of historical significance, as they were the first televised winter games, the first games to host a centralized athlete village, and boasted significant technological milestones, such as the instant replay feature.

where is The Village at Palisades Tahoe?

The location of The Village at Palisades Tahoe is ideal. Not only is it in the heart of the historic Olympic Valley, but it’s located a short drive from both Truckee and Tahoe City. It’s also accessible to miles of bike trails that can lead you all the way to the shores of Lake Tahoe.

The Village at Palisades Tahoe review

This review of The Village at Palisades Tahoe would not be complete without mentioning that these accommodations are incredibly unique to the area. The first level is full of various shops and restaurants, whereas the upper floors are the guest rooms. This makes for a very walkable and relaxed atmosphere. There is plenty of on-site parking, including enclosed parking for overnight guests.

review: guest rooms

There are many types of rooms at The Village at Palisades Tahoe. From simple yet spacious studio rooms, to expansive three-bedroom condos, there’s a room for every group size. Many rooms have fireplaces, full kitchens, and private balconies.

Our family stayed in a two-bedroom condo in building four. Although there are many hot tubs scattered throughout the five-building property, this building is the only one that has a hot tub on the second floor instead of ground level. Our family quite enjoyed relaxing here in the evening with gorgeous views all around!

Our guest rooms (or rather, rooms) were clean, comfortable, and spacious. We had a king bed with an ensuite bathroom, and a separate bedroom with two twin beds. The beds were comfortable and the towels were some of the nicest hotel towels we’ve experienced, plush and absorbent. Our bathrooms also had heated floors, which even in the summer were very nice on the chilly mornings.

Our stay was quiet and comfortable. Keep in mind, the units do not have central air conditioning. When we stayed in mid-June we were comfortable enough keeping our windows open and running the box fans that were in the room.

review: amenities

The front desk staff at check-in was so kind and we discovered that they have a scavenger hunt for kids to do around the property! It was a fun activity and when our kids went to front desk at check out they got to pick from a treasure chest. Other kid-friendly amenities include the various hot tubs around the property (there is no pool) and a kids room in building three.

The Village at Palisades Tahoe is a fun place to visit year round with shops and restaurants.

Meanwhile, adults will enjoy three on-site fitness facilities, a sauna, and a billiards lounge. And of course as I mentioned, it’s a fun atmosphere to be able to walk around the property and stop in various shops and eateries.

bottom line: is it worth it?

We hope to stay here again, but our visit was definitely a splurge for our family. Prices fluctuate greatly depending on the time of year, size of the unit you’re renting, and events going on in Tahoe.
