I love collecting postcards when we travel, especially when we visit a new national park. They’re like little pieces of art. Plus, they’re so fun to send to family and friends! I even used to collect postcards and I have an entire 3-ring binder stuffed full of postcards. As I get older though, I’ve become somewhat more practical and less of a collector of stuff. After all, what am I really supposed to do with all these postcards I’ve amassed over the years? Well, recently I had a genius idea to preserve these beautiful memories with some DIY postcard ornaments. Keep reading for how to make them, and for a roundup of several other ornament craft ideas! How to make easy postcard ornaments.

The trick to these DIY postcard ornaments is that you need either a scanner or copier. If you don’t have access to one, you can utilize a local print shop instead. You have two options for these, you can wither just make copies of the front of the postcards, or include the backs as well. If you’re making DIY postcard ornaments out of cards that people have actually sent you I highly recommend copying both sides of the postcard. It’s so neat to have the message and stamp preserved on your ornament!

materials needed:

Start by laying out your postcards to either scan or copy. If you are copying, you’ll want to reduce the size to about 55-60% of the original postcard size. If you are scanning then upload the scanned file into your preferred photo editing software and size accordingly.

Once you have your postcards copied and cut out, then glue and seal onto your wooden tags. Depending on the shape of your wooden tags and postcards you will probably need scissors to trim the paper perfectly to fit. Don’t forget to either add your twine first, or poke a hole after you’ve attached your copied postcard so that you can hang the ornament from your tree.
