Naming babies is tough work. Especially when you’ve had six girls in a row like we did. Mike and I tend to like names that sound more classic and timeless. However, we also don’t like names that are too popular so we try to look for those names that are more rare. Today I’m sharing some lovely, nature-inspired baby names for boys and girls. Hopefully this list helps you if you are struggling to find a baby name you love.

This timeless name means “the hazelnut tree” and has been increasing in popularity in more recent years.

Isla

This beautiful girl name is currently incredibly popular both in the U.S. and overseas. It has both Spanish and Scottish origins and means “island”.

Luna

In Roman mythology, Luna was the goddess of the moon making this one of the best nature-inspired baby names for those that love the night sky.

Shelby

This sweet and classic name works for a boy or a girl and means “willow”. It is of Norse origin and it’s scarcity in the United States makes it a favorite of ours.

Sierra

Sierra is a lovely girl name of Spanish origin meaning “saw” or “jagged”. That might not sound great to you, but keep in mind that the Sierra Nevada mountains of northern California are a beautiful region home to towering pines and crystal blue lakes.

This Scottish Gaelic name means “dove”. Although it’s popular overseas, it is still rare in the United States. It’s also a cute alternative to Calvin for those that like the nickname Cal.

Jasper

Jasper is a Persian name that means “treasurer”. However, it is also the name of an opaque quartz gemstone.

Lincoln

This Old English name was originally a surname. It means “lake/pool colony”. Linc or Link is a cute nickname for this name when boys are younger.

Riggs

Traditionally an old English surname, Riggs means “one from the ridge.” This landscape-inspired name is a perfect choice for families that love spending time outdoors in nature.

Wilford

This name is an Old English name that quite literally means “willow ford”. Although Wilford might sound a little stuffy for a baby, the nicknames “Will” and “Ford” are perfect for a young boy.
