Our kids love to tie dye and even though it can be kind of a mess, so do I. However, how many tie dye shirts does a person really need?! We tie dye every summer so their drawers are overflowing with bright tie dye creations already. This year I thought it would be fun to make something a little different and create some tie dye fabric wrapping paper. This is the perfect, eco-friendly solution to wrap gifts this summer! Make sure you read to the bottom for a fun tie dye-loving giveaway!

You’ll want to purchase some cotton tea towels. I bought these inexpensively from my local store but you can also order online. Just make sure you’re purchasing actual tea towels and not thin cheesecloth. Starting off this project with tea towels and not just raw fabric means that they’re already the perfect small square of fabric and the edges are already hemmed!

materials needed:
  • cotton tea towels
  • tie dye kits
  • large rubber bands
  • gloves

Dying these tea towels is the exact same process as dying anything else. Since they’re perfect squares you can get really creative with how you fold or roll the fabric before adding the dye. My kids had a blast picking out the colors and deciding on the designs. These would also be fun to pair with a box of cookie mix and give to teachers for Teacher Appreciation! That way they double as wrapping and a fun kitchen towel to use afterwards.
