We hadn’t been as a family in over six years though so February’s trip was our kids first time at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. It’s such a great place to run around and of course they loved it! It’s obvious that a visit to this part of Disney’s California Adventure Park is the perfect PE class. But did you know there’s also a great opportunity for a science lesson?

Amidst all the slides, rock climbing, and rope courses are lots of hidden animal tracks. The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail features identifying animal plaques that share a fact and their corresponding animal tracks. As you walk around exploring this hidden pocket of the park, you can find some of your favorite animals and learn something about them! I’ve created a tiny booklet that your child can walk around with. There are four spots for them to pick an animal, write down their fact, draw a picture, and then search for their tracks.

You can take this science lesson a step further when you get home by having them pick one animal of the four to focus on. They could write a report, create a video, make a clay sculpture, or design a poster! Most kids learn best when being hands-on and trying different techniques so think outside the box!
