swimming: water balloon races

Since not everyone has access to a pool how about a different aquatic race? Grab some water balloons and some chalk to make a finish line and have a race! We used a spoon to hold out balloons like an egg race, but you could also race tossing it back and forth, or stand stationary and see who can throw further into a bucket.

rowing: skateboard races

I had to include a substitute for the rowing event with this list since I used to row! Rather than rowing you’ll be using a skateboard to move across the finish line. Sit on the skateboard facing away from the finish line and push with your feet as you race along. Bonus points for rowing with your arms as you go!

diving: cannon ball contest

I think it’s safe to say that the fancy dives you see on tv fall under “don’t try this at home”. But a cannon ball contest? Perfect for amateurs and experts alike. I’ve even got some judges scorecards included with the free printables below so the cheering section can vote for their favorite!

equestrian: stick pony races

I know every little kid wants a pony, but a stick pony will have to suffice for this event. Set up a small obstacle course and see who can ride the hobby horses through the challenges the fastest! No stick ponies? No problem! A broom or hockey stick works just fine too!
