Let’s keep in mind that of course this is just a small sampling. There are tons of great beaches in the United States. But all of these have either been personally “tested” by yours truly or a trusty, travel-loving friend. Have I ever steered you wrong before? Whether you’re looking for a West Coast retreat or an East Coast getaway, there’s a family-friendly beach recommendation on this list.

Carlsbad, California: One of our family’s best beach vacations over the years has been Carlsbad beach in southern California. Located just a little north of San Diego you can enjoy the same beautiful beaches and temperate climate in a smaller town feel. Plus, you’re located right next to the LEGOLAND California Resort if your kids love those little multi-colored building blocks. There’s definitely something for everyone in your family in Carlsbad!

Newport Beach, California: Just down PCH from where I grew up, I’m excited that Newport Beach made this list. Jenny at Princess Turned Mom says that “there are so many places to go and things to do in and around Newport it is very difficult to narrow it down” and I would have to agree with her! Not only do you have fun places to eat, beautiful beaches to enjoy, and quaint local shops, but you are also close to some of the best attractions that southern California has to offer, including many major theme parks! Be sure to check out her blog post where she shares some of her favorite spots in Newport Beach.

The Oregon Coast: With so many beautiful spots along the Oregon coastline there’s no way I can narrow down to ONE that I recommend. Cannon Beach is perfect if you want to do some tide pool exploring. Newport is the ideal spot to stay at a hotel right on the sand. Lincoln City, Seaside, Tillamook… these are just some of the beautiful family-friendly beach spots that the Oregon coast offers. Be sure to check out my guide all about taking an Oregon Coast road trip with your kids!

Anna Maria Island: Located on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Anna Maria Island is known for its beautiful white sand beaches. Diana from the Gray Ruby Diaries says that, “Anna Maria Island is one of our absolute favorite places to visit as a family.” Be sure to read her blog post all about where to stay with your family, what to do, and the family-friendly places to get your grub on. If literally eating dinner on the sand at sunset sounds right up your alley you won’t want to miss her post!

Dry Tortugas National Park: You need to make sure this southern-most U.S. National Park is on your bucket list, asap. I visited with my family as a teenager and can’t wait to return with my own kids someday! The only way to visit is by a boat or seaplane, but don’t worry, Molly from The Flying Hens has a complete guide with everything you need to know. You could spend the entire day here swimming, snorkeling, and exploring and not get bored. But don’t take my word for it, you need to experience this one for yourself!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Of course we couldn’t the best family beach vacations on the East Coast and not mention Myrtle Beach! Leah from Five for the Road has an ultimate guide to Myrtle Beach with 21 things to do with your family. Leah says that Myrtle Beach “is a great place for families because there are a lot of family activities, restaurants, and the beautiful beaches.” The pictures in her post definitely backup her claims! Be sure to head over to Leah’s post and check out all the details!
