I love all holidays. Fun decorations, yummy food–any excuse to celebrate something is okay with me! Yet for some reason it seems like in our household St. Patrick’s Day kind of gets lost in the shuffle between Valentine’s Day and Easter. The decorations are kind of sparse and my husband isn’t a fan of corned beef and cabbage soooo…. what’s a girl to do? You know what’s always a good idea though? Rainbows. Rainbows go with pots of gold and leprechauns and St. Patrick’s Day–and are always a good idea. So keep reading to see how simple this DIY rainbow in a jar is! Some links contain affiliates.

These cute and colorful layered jars of candy and mini marshmallows are the perfect decoration/treat for St. Patrick’s Day! I used a special-sized Mason jar that’s extra tall and skinny (it’s the wide mouth 1.5 pint size) so I could get a good layer in there for each color but you could make any size jar work. Also, if you find a candy that has two different purples let me know–it’s really bothering me that both indigo and violet aren’t represented. Sorry Roy G. Biv.

The fun thing about this (can I even call it a DIY?!) is that you can use any candy that you can find in rainbow colors. Starburts or Tootsie Fruit Chews would be other great options. And how cute would one of these candy rainbows in a jar be for a teacher gift or to drop off for neighbors? Or if a leprechaun visits your house they could bring them for your kiddos. Personally, I’ve told the leprechaun not to come to our home–my kids make enough of a mess on their own.
