Can you believe that Halloween is only a couple days away? Trust me, I know because my kids keep reminding me multiple times a day. And although I know you’ll soon be up to your eyeballs in all sorts of sugary sweets, one more couldn’t hurt, right? Today I’m sharing a super simple Halloween cake that would make the perfect addition to your All Hallows Eve. You could even make it after Halloween with some leftover chocolate-covered wafers if you wanted… yeah right–there won’t be any leftovers.

I am definitely no cake decorator but I figured I could make a spooky and fun Halloween cake pretty easily. My cake decorating philosophy is to just cover the cake up–that way you don’t have to have a nice, smooth finish. Perfection is definitely overrated, wink wink.

Crush crackers and cookies to make "dirt".

I simply used the same technique that I did to decorate my red velvet cheesecake cake. However, this time I used milk chocolate candy bars. Crushed chocolate graham crackers and cream cookies covered the top to create the “dirt” of the graveyard.

Originally I was going to make the gravestones for this Halloween cake out of melted chocolate. This would be easy to accomplish by simply melting chocolate down and then pouring into headstone shapes on wax paper. Once the chocolate hardened you would be able to lift off and place on the cake! However, I saw these awesome headstone cupcake toppers in the cake decorating aisles and decided to give them a try instead! They came with an edible marker and they were very simple to use.

Candy headstone cupcake toppers

If you want a slightly less gruesome take on this graveyard Halloween cake you could make a pumpkin patch instead! Just use candy pumpkins and scatter them around. You could even make some pumpkin vines by rolling up green Starbursts or Airheads into long “snakes”.
