Our family recently got back from a big Southwest road trip. 17 days and 2,923 miles later, I have so much great content to share with all of you from our adventures! We started our trip in southern California staying at a great campground only a half a mile from the beach. Keep reading for our family’s thoughts on staying at the Oceanside RV Resort with Thousand Trails–it’s the perfect place to go camping in southern California! But it doesn’t matter if you’re a member of Thousand Trails, you can book a stay here either way! This article is in partnership with Thousand Trails, all opinions and experiences are my own.
camping in southern California at Oceanside RV Resort
Oceanside RV Resort has recently been renovated and is the perfect southern California camping getaway. It is a beautiful campground and our family loved being able to start off our epic road trip here! The location is perfect for several southern California destinations and attractions.

location of Oceanside RV Resort
As far as convenience goes, Oceanside RV Resort is a great option when choosing where to camp in southern California. It was nice to be close to shopping for last-minute items we had forgotten to bring from home. The half mile distance from Buccaneer Park and Buccaneer Beach was perfect for walking to so we didn’t have to deal with parking. We were also able to walk to dinner at a great pizza place one night. Plus, the drive to popular local attractions is short, making this the perfect homebase while you explore all of San Diego County.

camping options at Oceanside RV Resort
Oceanside RV Resort has both RV spots with full hookups, and tent sites. We had a pull-through site during our three nights at Oceanside RV Resort and loved how convenient it was. The sites are all level concrete pads, which is really nice as well. There are both back-in, and pull-through sites, and 20, 30, and 50 amp sites available at Oceanside RV Resort so be sure you select the type of site you want when booking. All the RV campsites have new site separators for added privacy.
There are standard tent sites and premium tent sites at Oceanside RV Resort. Both types of sites are 20′ x 20′ and have some privacy with fencing around the site. However, the premium sites have some extra bonuses like a raised platform and water and electric available at your site. Keep in mind that these sites are closest to the train tracks that border one side of the campground and these trains do run all throughout the day and night. If you’re a light sleeper you might want to consider ear plugs.
amenities at Oceanside RV Resort
Our family’s favorite amenities at Oceanside RV Resort were the heated pool and hot tub, and the game room. The pool area was completely pristine, with lots of lounging chairs and a large fire pit. The game room was a great place to relax and watch television or read a book. There was also a pool table, a few arcade games, and several board games to choose from. My little ones also had fun on the small miniature golf course that is a new addition to the property.

Another family-favorite amenity at Oceanside RV Resort is the bathroom and shower facilities. Which might sound strange, but we’ve stayed at enough campgrounds with really bad bathrooms to appreciate when they’re actually really good. The bathrooms had recently been remodeled and were always clean. We also all appreciated the excellent water pressure and the fact that the showers had a rain shower head and a hand-held sprayer. We may, or may not have–but definitely did–compare these camp showers to every other shower on our long road trip. There are actually two bathroom buildings at Oceanside RV Resort, although during our staying in early June 2025 the bathrooms further back were still closed for remodeling.
