Getting new neighbors can be really fun… especially when they’re your parents and you suddenly have free babysitters in the house behind yours. Ha ha. Seriously though, new neighbors moving in can be a great chance to meet new people, gain new friends, have new experiences, or expand your child’s circle of friends. And isn’t it always best to start off on the right foot? Here are some ideas for what to put into a new neighbor gift basket!
what to include in a new neighbor gift basket
There are so many great ideas for what to include in a new neighbor gift basket! It doesn’t have to cost a lot to be thoughtful. In fact, many of the items in my basket were either homemade, free, or cost less than a dollar. I included an area map, a couple of local postcards, a loaf of homemade banana bread, and a jar of canned peaches from our local farm stand.

I tried to include local items to help them get to know the area and local businesses. However, there are lots of other ideas for a new neighbor welcome basket like this!

Just try to remember when putting together a gift for someone you don’t know yet, it’s best to play it safe. Avoid foods that are common allergens, like peanuts. I would also recommend steering clear of alcohol or coffee as well, unless you’re sure that they drink them.

a back up plan to shopping local
Putting together a “welcome to the neighborhood” gift basket is a great chance to support local businesses. However, sometimes in a pinch it’s nice to have some items on hand for unexpected gifting opportunities. These Amazon gift ideas work great for new neighbors, teacher gifts, or that friend that needs a quick pick-me up! Paired with a personal note even Amazon finds can be incredibly thoughtful.
seasonal and other new neighbor gift ideas
- – take out menus from local restaurants with your favorite items circled
- – native flower seeds for a spring move-in
- – a s’mores kit for a summer move-in
- – cinnamon scented pinecones in the fall or winter
- – a bottle of sparkling cider
And of course, when in doubt, just going over and introducing yourself (preferably with a plate of cookies) is always a good start!

Super cute idea! I love the take out menu idea!
Very cute idea. And so awesome that people still do this. We love meeting new neighbors, but others aren't so enthralled to do so.
