For one of my husband’s Father’s Day presents I made him a stamped custom keychain. It’s the perfect, simple DIY gift. It also has the benefit of being a homemade gift that’s not too girly, and sometimes that’s hard to find! This is a really easy project and once you have the needed materials, you can make as many as you want! Some links contain affiliates, all opinions are my own.

The initial cost of the metal stampers is a small investment, but the rest of this project is really budget-friendly! You can easily stamp many types of metals, but for this custom keychain I used zinc washers. To make this meaningful, I decided to stamp the two digits from the important years in our married lives. These include the year we were married, then followed by each of our children’s birth years.

If you’ve never used a metal stamp set before don’t stress about it because it’s really easy! You just line up the stamp on the metal surface and make sure you hit it cleanly (ideally once) with the hammer. The nice thing about using inexpensive washers is that if you do mess up, you can easily start over again with a new washer.

If you want the stamped impression to stand out more, then after stamping you can color in the indentations with a black Sharpie. Then you wipe the surface clean with a baby wipe to erase any stray Sharpie marks. It’s super simple to do this part and makes a big difference, but you can definitely skip that step if you want to.

materials needed:

number metal stamps

zinc washers

lightweight hammer (if using a regular hammer, be really careful when you hit the stamp!)

These are super cute… do you sell these by any chance or would it be better for me to invest in my own set?

It probably cost me around $30 to invest in everything I would need for these (obviously you get multiple washers and key rings in a pack though). I would be more than happy to sell you one/some for $6 each (which includes the cost of shipping, assuming you're in the US). Feel free to email me at littledovecreations@gmail.com and let me know if you would like to order some! 🙂
