It’s time for another Year of Color Link Up and I am so excited to see what y’all have come up with for my favorite color–yellow.
I must admit though, I say it’s my favorite color and then as I was coming up with ideas for this post I realized that I pretty much have NO yellow in my house.
No yellow clothes.
No yellow décor.
No yellow anything.
Then I remembered that I’d been wanting to spray paint a set of letters for my letterboards (yes, boards plural, I just ordered my second one last month and I love it!) but hadn’t been sure what color I’d wanted to do. The more I thought about it the more I realized that yellow would be the perfect pop for those boards. It would look good against the black felt and the gray felt, and if I ever ordered a white felt one down the road it would probably look great on that one too (y’all, I might have a small obsession).
Of course, if you’ve ever ordered a letterboard then you know that the first order of business is cutting all the teeny tiny letters off their main framework. The first time I did this it seemed to take forever and I spread it out over a couple nights. This time around I had worked out a system and I knocked it out in one naptime sitting. Huzzah!
Once you have all your letters trimmed off then you need to prep your paint space. I would recommend that you find a large, old cardboard box. Then, as time consuming as it may sound, you’re going to want to poke holes in the bottom of the box (just small holes, they don’t need to go all the way through) and then push the tabs on the backside of the letters through them. This will protect the tabs from getting spray paint on them, which you definitely don’t want. If you get paint on the tabs you will risk paint getting rubbed off on your felt.
You’re going to want to apply several thin layers of spray paint on your letters so they get evenly covered and don’t get paint drips on them.
Make sure that your letters are thoroughly dry before you use them on your boards! If you did get any overspray on your letter tabs then you can easily scrape it off with your fingernail.
I love the fun pop of color that I can add to my boards now! I also think that I can rightly claim that yellow is truly my favorite color.
You know, since you can actually find it in my house now.
