Today is July 31 which means it’s Harry Potter’s birthday! I don’t know about you, but in our house that’s a good enough reason to celebrate. Tonight we’ll be throwing Harry a birthday party with a little Sorcerer’s Stone viewing and cake eating. But, what Harry Potter birthday party would be complete without a little of our favorite beverage from Hogsmeade? That’s right–butterbeer. the best and easiest butterbeer recipe

About 6 1/2 years ago Mike and I were able to go to Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Of course, the place we were most looking forward to was The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. That day we enjoyed more butterbeer than I care to admit. Ever since then I’ve tried numerous copycat recipes trying to find one that was perfect–but I was never able to.

I wouldn’t think it would be that hard to recreate, but it seemed like every recipe I found was either way too complicated (I’m sorry, but I just don’t have time to try and mix 10 different ingredients together), had odd ingredients (in case you didn’t know, melted butter separates and rehardens when it sits in chilled soda and the result is not pleasant), or started with a Root Beer base (have these people never had butterbeer?!). I knew that there had to be a much simpler recipe, one that you could either make one glass at a time or for a large crowd.

After trying lots of recipes this is the best, simplest, and most authentic Butterbeer recipe!
Author: Justine @ Little Dove
Ingredients
  • Cream Soda (or Diet Cream Soda)
  • Torani Butterscotch Syrup
  • Half and Half
Instructions
  1. This is the simplest and most delicious version of Butterbeer you can make yourself at home.  You can either make a whole 2 liter of Butterbeer at once, or mix it up a glass at a time.
  2. Simply add the desired amount of Torani Butterscotch syrup and Half and Half to your Cream Soda. I find that for one glass a pump or two of Butterscotch syrup and a splash of Half and Half is about right.

Have you tried Butterbeer before? How will you be celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday today?
