I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to share for my year of color post this month. Then I decided to take some inspiration from my kiddos who have been persistently pestering me for a piñata for weeks. Plus, Cinco de Mayo is only a couple weeks away! SO of course the perfect solution is share this DIY piñata with all of you! This pastel piñata is perfect for spring, Cinco de Mayo, or just a random Wednesday. Links contain affiliates, all opinions are completely my own.

steps:
  1. Cut out your cardboard into the shape that you want.
  2. Tape the pieces together with duct tape leaving a small opening at the top.
  3. Stick extra tape on the top to help reinforce where you’re going to poke holes to hang the piñata from.
  4. Cut strips of tissue paper. (How many you need will depend on the size of your piñata but mine was fairly large and I only used one piece of each color of tissue paper.)  Then cut fringes in the strips of tissue paper. No need to measure and be exact, you won’t be able to tell how perfect it is once you get it on your cardboard.
  5. Paint a section of cardboard with the Mod Podge (or glue) and lay your fringe-cut tissue paper strips down one at a time. I suggest starting at the bottom and working your way up.
  6. Once the entire piñata is covered trim off all the excess tissue paper that’s hanging over the side.

And there you have it, a pretty pastel piñata that’s particularly perfect for punching. Whew! Say that five times fast. Seriously though, this was my first time making a DIY piñata and it took me about an hour and a half. I bet next time I could do it even faster. So if you’re prepping for a party you could turn on a show and get one of these done in no time.

The most important thing is that it worked and the kids loved it! I think I will definitely be making another one in the future! It was definitely a bonus that I already had the materials to make it and I saved a trip to the store.
