A few weeks ago I was able to plan a belated birthday surprise for Mike. Our destination was Inn Town Campground located in Nevada City, California. Just a short and scenic drive up highway 49 through Auburn and Grass Valley. I had first heard about this campground from a friend in passing. After some research I could not wait to check it out for myself. I thought that this would be the perfect birthday surprise for Mike since we both love being outdoors. Keep reading for all the details of this glamping staycation in Nevada County. This post is in partnership with Inn Town Campground, all opinions are my own.

glamping canvas tents

Even after seeing lots of pictures online, I was still very impressed when we arrived at our canvas glamping tent. First of all, I could have left our towels and pillows at home because they provided them for us. Mike and I are so picky about our pillows which is why I’d brought our own even though I knew they’d have them. However, their pillows were so comfy that ours definitely weren’t needed. They also provided us with ear plugs (we didn’t need them, but it’s a nice touch for those that do), a solar lantern, and a flashlight to use.

The tent was very large and had a fun, eclectic mix of furnishings. The attention to detail is definitely something that makes me all heart-eyed. You can definitely tell that the wonderful folks behind Inn Town Campground love what they do.

getting a good night’s sleep

We arrived a little late and had already had dinner so we quickly unloaded the car. Then we took a quick walk around and headed to the fire pits to roast some marshmallows. I had come prepared with our own makings for s’mores. However, if you forget you can also purchase everything you need from the camp store. At first I had a nervous moment where I realized that I’d forgotten to bring matches, but we ended up not needing them. They have a few fire rings that are propane so simply turning them on gets them going! It was so simple to use and Mike and I want to put one in at our house now.

The campground was so peaceful at night and we enjoyed a good night’s sleep in our cabin after washing up in their outdoor showers. No worries, they also offer indoor showers if that’s not your thing. The weather was perfect during our stay, but our cabin was also equipped with a heated mattress pad and a standing fan. Since Inn Town Campground is open year round I can definitely see how these features would come in handy.

other accommodations for your glamping staycation

It should be noted that this post is featuring their glamping tent cabins. However, Inn Town Campground also offers tent sites and RV sites. With 15 acres to explore, hiking trails to historic Nevada City, a pool to cool off in, and so much more; Inn Town Campground offers a fun, outdoor getaway in a gorgeous setting.

As Mike and I were walking around we kept talking about how much fun it will be to come back with the kids sometime this summer. The fact that it’s so close and offers so many amenities is definitely a plus, especially when camping with kids!

a peaceful getaway in Nevada County

It was so nice to spend a lazy morning together on our back deck and chat. I would definitely recommend getting away with your sweetheart when you can, even if it’s just for one night. It’s such a nice way to reconnect and relax, especially when you’re in a beautiful setting like this. After relaxing for awhile and getting ready for the day we explored the campground some more.

Some of our favorite features include: the dishwashing stations at each bathroom, the swimming pool, the proximity to lots of things to do, and the Commons area. We didn’t get to spend a lot of time in the Commons since we weren’t there very long. However, as someone who has camped a lot I really a appreciate this great gathering place that the owners, Dan and Erin Thiem, have created.  The Commons houses a communal kitchen and dining space, a fun sitting room where you can play games, watch some television, or peruse the pamphlets and brochures for local attractions. This is also where the camp store and the office are located, as well as additional bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities.
