a year of color: planning the perfect pink tea party (in 15 minutes or less)

Happy Friday friends! I am so excited about this month’s year of color link up! To be totally honest though, I could not decide what I wanted to share today! I feel like a recipe would have been easy to whip up, but I did a recipe last month so I wanted to try something different this time around. I had been thinking I’d do some type of Valentine’s Day craft, but then I realized I’d be posting after the fact, and although I still could have shared something holiday-related, I decided to try and think of something different.

Finally, after being inspired by some of my awesome friends who are rocking the fun mom thing I decided to throw a super simple tea party for my two older girls while big brother was at school and baby sister took a nap. We had our little tea party on Valentine’s Day, but any day is a good day for a perfect pink tea party–even when you’re a busy mom with very little time!

Minutes 1-5: Gather your items

Set a timer or keep your eyes on a clock and gather décor and items that you need for five minutes. I picked a pink color scheme but obviously you can pick any color you want. During your prep time you also tell your little one(s) to go get dressed up. This also helps keep them busy while you’re setting up, #momwin.

Minutes 6-10: prepare the treats and drinks

You only have five minutes so keep in mind that this is not supposed to be super fancy. Just gather small finger foods that are ready to go. Since it was Valentine’s Day we had lots of little goodies laying around, but I promise your kids don’t care what you serve. Also, we had just had lunch so I didn’t worry about serving an actual meal, but you could easily make some peanut butter sandwiches if you need to be serving food of substance. Some other simple ideas include: apple slices, orange wedges, crackers, and cheese cubes. For our beverage for our “tea party” I just used flavored water but juice, lemonade, herbal tea, or hot chocolate are other great options!

Minutes 11-15: set up

Gather all your items together and set up your table. Easy peasy. I would apologize for the lack of and quality of pictures, but I won’t because for once I was actually focusing on being present in the moment with my littles. It was so sweet to see how excited they were about everything, from dressing up to getting to use the fancy pink “big girl” plates and glasses, to getting yummy treats. And After setting up they were probably done in about another 15 minutes, making me really glad I didn’t stress about setting up a tea party for them for hours.

I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m trying to advocate squeezing in time with your kids–after all I firmly believe that your family is the most important thing–but we all have lots of demands on our time and sometimes I forget that my kiddos don’t need complicated activities, they just want to spend time with me!

Have you ever planned a tea party for your kids? I’m a little embarrassed to say that I’ve been a girl mom for 4 1/2 years now and this is my first one. I don’t even know how it’s possible but I hope they don’t kick me out of the Girl Mom Club (for anyone interested we meet on Wednesday afternoons, wink wink).
