simplicity and confidence in your #momstyle

There was a time when I didn’t care much about my clothing, ahh, the good ol’ days of elementary school–when my mom picked my outfits out and all I wanted to do was wear comfy cotton dresses every day. Then I got a little older and a lot more self conscious about what I wore. What colors and patterns looked good together? How dressy or casual should I dress?

Let’s make a really long story short and just say that with getting older, struggles with baby weight, tight budgets, and being busy momming and adulting every day, my style really took a hit; but the other side of that was that I stopped caring what other  people thought (at least, not quite as much). And although many days can still find me in my go-to mom outfit of a t-shirt and jeans, when I was pregnant with baby numerous duos in hot and humid San Antonio I rediscovered something amazing that I hadn’t thought much about since I was in elementary school….

…skirts are pretty much the best thing ever.

Maxi skirts or midi skirts, it makes no difference to me. Through all my babies and my ever-changing waistline I don’t have to worry as much about them fitting (hello elastic waistbands!), they are comfortable in the hot summer, and you can easily dress them up or dress them down depending on accessories and foot wear. Guess what else? It’s just as easy to throw on a skirt and top as it is to throw on jeans and  a top! It’s true!

I even rocked this outfit on a recent date night with Mike and as I was leaving the house and our babysitter (aka, Grammy) asked, “You’re wearing a skirt mini golfing?!” I thought, you betcha

I feel like I have finally reached a point where I feel pretty dang good about myself. I mean, I still have my moments where I have to push the negative thoughts down and remind myself, “Self, you have given birth to FOUR babies in SIX years, you’re incredible! All things considered you look pretty amazing, and nobody can even see that spit up on your shoulder.”

I’m not going to worry about being over dressed for a situation and I’m not going to worry about whether or not other people will think I match. I’m going to rock my mom style with a smile on my face… and probably a small stain or two on my shirt.

Because I’m the mom, that’s why.

What is your summer style like? I’d also love to hear your thoughts if you’re a mom–how do you feel confident and put together and maintain comfort? Do you love skirts like I do?
